SERMON NOTES Shannon Huetter, Lead Pastor THE WORD OF “DISTRESS” Mark 15:33-34 March 15, 2020 And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. A nd at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Mark 15:33-34 BIG IDEA: We must realize the d arkness and distress our sin caused. DARKNESS This was a symbol of moral darkness. (Luke 22:53) This was a divine judgement. ( Exodus 10:21-22) This darkness fulfilled p rophecy. (Amos 8:9-10) DISTRESS Sin separates us from God. (Isaiah 59:2) Jesus is now drinking from the cup of w rath. ( Matthew 26: 36-39) Jesus is f orsaken by God because he has taken our sins upon him. (John 1:29) QUESTIONS TO PONDER What does Jesus' Fourth Word from the cross teach us about faith? About commitment? About love? What effect should this understanding have on our lives?
